Three Fantastic Studios
2000–2006 · Bardon and New Farm, Brisbane
In the first years of the new century I returned to Brisbane and worked in several brilliant studios culminating in shopfront studio on Merthyr Road, New Farm
The Bardon Studio
I had the great pleasure of creating two Australia Day floats in 2001, Billy Tea and Billy Cart. Billy Cart was a giant Billy Cart made os a hundread normal sized billy carts, and driven by a friend from the first primary school that I went to when we arrived in Australia on Australia Day 1970!
Billy Tea was a giant tea pot and tea cups made of Bushells Tea boxes, which were sponsored by the company for the float. The float was supposed to be a clowning act, where the tea pot was trying to fill the cups with tea, and the cups were running away, trying not to get wet. But as it was a hot day, the cups kept running up to the tea pot to cool down with a spray of water.
The teacups were operated by some friends who were professional street performers/clowns, Anna Yen and Julian St. John. The teapot was operated some other dear friends, Donald Hall and Roz Paton
Above is a photo of Donald taking a tea cup for a test spin! If any mutual friends would like a higher resolution copy of that, just contact me and I'll send it along.
Here's my website at the time... This iteration is more like 2008 but close enough!
