Painted as a tribute to Donald Hall, a dear friend of nearly forty years. The work shows Donald in his red upstairs music room, gathering energy to play.
During Donald's final months I lived with him as his carer, often preparing meals in the kitchen while he played piano, a time I remember as beautiful. The painting was completed roughly two months after his passing, in a period when I could no longer sleep.
Rather than keeping the work, I gifted it to the Blessed Academy, Donald Hall's house, fulfilling his wish that the property become a place of music learning and performance.
