Ulysses

Rudi's Ulyssean journey. A portrait of Rudi Mineur, painted over three and a half years.

When I first started doing massage for Rudi, he was a strong man in a contemporary circus troupe. I was helping to break up scar tissue after a shoulder reconstruction. He was nearing 50 and deciding whether to continue with his life in the touring circus ensemble, or to find a way to earn an income while having more time at home with his long-term partner and children.

The portrait became reflective of that internal, Ulyssean journey.
