Morning help in the studio — June 2017

I generally start work at around 6.30am, and I almost always have company.

A busy studio in June 2017

Mid-year, preparing for two group shows and then the September studio show. This is the second year that I've been invited into the Downlands Art Exhibition, and I'm quite excited about making some work specially for it! Also lately I have been exploring new ways to approach the Sleep series. Each new Sleeper/painting inspires further concepts around that diaphanous liminality at the point where consciousness is most slippery. I keep trying to make smaller works, yet they continue to grow. I will just have to follow the path that they lead me on.

Lots of life in the studio at present!

One last glance at Glance of Brahma before accepting that it is complete. All our lives, histories and dreams are but a moment in the passing glance of Brahma...

New works on the wall, works to be finished soon on the easels ... and a harp.

Ars Moriendi coffin lid — Billy Shannon 2017

Thanatos is the sibling of Hypnos in Greek mythology: Death and Sleep. I am very happy to be part of this exhibition. To fully appreciate life, we must sometimes remember that it is transitory.

Preparing an actual coffin lid for an August group show, Ars Moriendi.

Work in progress — 2017

Working on several paintings at a time has always been my habit.
