Afternoon sketching — 2018

Mural phase one. I always love large scale sketching!

Things Autumnal 2018

I have been mainly working on commissions and works for competitions of late. Painting works for an interior designer, and pushing further with the Sleep series. The peeling wallpaper and cracks in the studio walls were starting to feel a little tired, so I decided to paint a quick mural in there, thinking mainly about the endnote for many Armenian tales about pomegranates, Նուռ.

Three pomegranates fell down from heaven —
one for the storyteller,
one for the listener,
and one for the whole world.

March 2018

Most of the 'Sleep' series use colours that the Sleepers find relaxing or that they just love. All the movement in the work comes from their movement during their sessions with me.

March 2018 studio

Working on several paintings at a time has always been my habit.

Eugene revisited again — 2018

I love having good friends come and play in the studio with me! Eugene Gilfedder is an actor and musician, but has also taken up painting in the last few years.

The helper — 2018

Pushkin the apprentice. Silly me, to think that I could work on the floor!

March 2018 reworking

Re-looking at some work, I sometimes decide that works have more questions to answer. More details and thoughts need to emerge. Oh yeah, the ubiquitous cat play area is rather prominent today.

Interior design commission with Colossus — 2018

Interior design by Salta Interiors, incorporating my Colossus painting.

Colossus — Billy Shannon 2018

Colossus in situ, 4.5 x 0.5 m. (Photo by Brett Salta.)
Colossus was painted for Salta Interiors, specifically for this space in a 30th floor apartment. I was loosely thinking of Goya's Colossus whilst painting it. The structure is also based on divine proportion.

Colossus in the studio — 2018

Working on Colossus. This was too tall to stand in the studio.

Sona in the studio — 2018

It's fantastic to have Sona come and play in my studio! I'm too messy to be let loose in hers! This was taken fairly early in the day.

Nare and Sona — 2018

The second day for this session of Sona in my studio! We will do this quite frequently now! Nare's first painting!!

March 2018 studio view

A work in progress. Chloe de Buyl-Pisco, listening to whales, dreaming of them and communicating with them.
